Performance skills
Level of competence
Where and how I have developed this?
Acting: Projection
GREEN
I project well in a room full of an audience. This I feel comes from my learning of how to project your voice across a room in singing
Acting: Voice/Accent
AMBER/GREEN
I have developed the accents I have so far performed in, however I would like to expand my skills and learn more accents as I find it harder to pick them up instantly.
Acting: Body Language
AMBER/GREEN
I feel I am good at portraying dramatic/theatrical scenes with strong body language, although I do wish to improve my body language in naturalistic portrayals
Acting: Use of proxemics/space
GREEN
Through methods and blocking, I have learned to use the whole space well and in relation to others in the space. My choreographing of dance pieces has also helped me learn how to make use of all the space.
Acting: Facial Expressions
GREEN
My facial expressions are strong when I have been playing my roles, and I have developed this through character development and analysis of the script/description of the character’s demeanour, and also the scene mood.
Acting: Learning Lines
GREEN
I am very confident in learning my lines as I can pick them up quickly. My biggest obstacle was learning monologues, however learning to split up the lines and give my full attention to memorizing them has improved my skills.
Singing: Pitching/Intonation
GREEN
Through college I have developed my pitching/intonation through various vocal exercises, and am very positive with my level of skill in this
Singing: Breath Control
AMBER/GREEN
My breath control has developed through breathing exercises and breaking down songs to incorporate my breathing structure between lines etc.
Singing: Interpretation
GREEN
I make sure to interpret songs I have sung to carry the message of that song, the object/meaning of why i’m singing it. If I am playing a specific character in a production, I will research into the plot and use this to decide how to interpret parts of the song. I also try not to focus too much on where my voice is technically when performing, as you are trying to display the character you embody, not yourself as a singer.
Singing: Pronunciation/Diction
GREEN
I feel very confident in this as I always aim to be clear with pronouncing lyrics and my articulation of the words. I have developed these through useful articulation exercises.
Singing: Vocal Range
GREEN
My vocal range has improved massively over time, from help of my other classmates boosting my confidence and helping me recognize I had bigger range than I thought. I have also dedicated a lot of time out of lessons to improve this skill.
Dance: Movement Memory
GREEN
I’ve always found it easy to pick up and memorise movement fairly quickly, and I have developed this from my previous years of experience in performing frequently.
Dance: Musicality
GREEN
I have always had strong musicality, being sensitive to timing and matching my movement well to the mood and rhythm of the music. I have developed this overtime from previous dance experience, and working with a variety of themes/concepts and music genres.
Dance: Flexibility
AMBER/GREEN
My flexibility can be improved more, and if I do more exercises focusing on this, I will be able to develop this skill as well as learn about my real limitations
Dance: Extension
AMBER/GREEN
My extension could be improved more as it has been mentioned to me that I could extend my arms more in movements. I am going to develop this by self observing in the mirror and performing phrases that focus on the extension of the limbs.
Dance: Posture and Alignment
AMBER
I can struggle with this, particularly my alignment. I need to develop this by understanding my body’s natural alignment as I suffer from bow legs and outturned hips. I need to learn exercises and positions that will help with these issues to improve this skill
Dance: Strength
AMBER
I want to develop my strength more so I am able to perform more challenging movements. I think strength links with balance, and by improving both of these, I will be able to effectively perform difficult actions
Dance: Stamina
GREEN
My stamina is strong in dance as I have a lot of practice in long performances, and building this with cardio exercises before dancing.
Overall Performance: Confidence
GREEN
I have a lot of confidence in overall performance, as it feels very natural performing to an audience. Although technically I can feel slightly nervous in performing movement, I mostly feel at ease as my performance skills are strong.
